|
|
Okay, so the most boring and faceless team is out of F1. They have cited that the reason for pulling out is because of economic downturn.
This is believable, seeing as Honda, BMW, and Bridgestone are all going by the wayside. However, there is a little piece that Ferrari put out that indicates that the real reason Toyota is pulling out is because the powers that be in F1 are against manufacturer involvement.
There is some truth to that. The whole FOCA-FIA war did more harm than good. However, Ferrari's correlation to the Agatha Christie novel "Ten Little Indians" (and if you haven't read it go read it, because it's really good) is surprisingly clear.
With Renault apparently on the way out as well, this could bring a new era of sorts to F1 -- consisting of privateer teams plus Ferrari and one (or two) team(s) backed but not wholly owned by a manufacturer (McLaren, Brawn, and Force India -- but McLaren will likely lose the Mercedes power for 2011 and make their own engines).
Personally I've always hated manufacturer owned teams, but I do believe that the manufacturers should be in F1 -- as engine suppliers. Even if they're not direct engine suppliers, teams in the past have badged the engines as something other than what they really were. For instance, the Williams-Mecachrome and the Benetton-Playlife. Playlife (Google them) making F1 engines?! Come on... in reality I think those engines were one year old Renault engines.
I would much rather see:
USF1-Toyota
Brawn-Mercedes
Williams-Renault
Sauber-Ferrari
Red Bull-Renault
Than...
Renault
Honda
Ferrari
Toyota
Because then the manufacturers have -too- much influence, and the manufacturers will only stick around as long as they are making money. If, in the case of a works team, a manufactuerer team starts to do poorly, they will leave, and largely abandon the team, probably disbanding it.
However, with privateer-owned teams with manufacturer engines, the loss of a manufacturer will not be the possible death of the team, which appears to be the case with Renault and possibly with the Toyota team.
The biggest disappointment of all, however, is that this could be the end of Kamui Kobayashi in F1, which will be the biggest F1 tragedy since SUPER AGURI left the grid. _________________ Online Wins: 6

hey, i like Kamui Kobayashi. hes like the new JPM! I bet youll see him land some kinda ride in 2010. you dont come out of no where and make that kind of impact and have it go unnoticed.
one thing this absolutely does is eliminate the Kyle Busch to F1 rumors. _________________ ENDURO career:

If you hate manufacturer-owned teams so much, why exactly did you put them in TMMC? _________________ Imagine if they made NASCAR history a subject in school? I would soooooo ace that class. |

Sauber gets first dibs since they left, then decided they wanted back in. Unless someone decides to do what they did with the Honda team, and buy the Toyota team, Sauber will be back. _________________

Not FOCA, FOTA. A bit disappointing to see Toyota go. They have impressed this year and with Timo Glock as their driver they have been quite good. I'm sure Timo is going somewhere next year though. _________________ Caterham Career:

Same thing, in essence. ;(
@Nascarboy426- Realism. Roush Fenway is a de facto Ford works team in NASCAR. Flare Motorsports and Lenard have a similar relationship, as do Saar and National Racing (in that instance, so much that the team name changed after the series went global). Also, you're forgetting that two of the teams are privateers, in Katzev and PSI, and have no manufacturer ties.
Ferrari started in F1 and used their road cars to supplement their F1 team.
@Leon13 - It does not kill the Kyle Busch to F1 rumors -- because the rumors have just shifted to him going to USF1 in 2011.
BTW, Kobayashi (or Cowboyashi, as I've heard some people call him), is the freaking man. He's more like Takuma Sato than JPM -- a new BANZAI MASTER. _________________ Online Wins: 6

as far as Busch to F1, anyone know how long his personal service contract to Toyota is? _________________ ENDURO career:

Yeah he did some of the most agressive moves. Like on Jenson Button in Abu Dhabi.

Haha I think hell crash every week. He's always pullin fenders but the f1 cars are pee weak. |

As far as I see, Kobayashi or Cowboy-yashi, is a complete nut. I was embarrassed to see the driving of Kobayashi in Brazil. He had 5 lanes. I do admit that he has guts to do some of the things he has done and has potential but currently he is driving like it is dirt track Sunday night racing or British Touring Cars Championship. _________________ Caterham Career:

Nope, he was driving like that. Also not all drivers are morons, your forgetting Fabrizio Giovanardi and Jason Plato. _________________ Caterham Career:

| Actually Peter Brock never got to race in his last cause of Jason Plato. Matt Neal is even a bigger moron. Seen a video on the internet where Neal was 3 laps down and crashes into other cars. |

Bartman, that was my point. Matt Neal teamed up with Boris Said in the 2008 Bathurst 1000 and in the last few laps of the race, Neal spun off about three times. In the same race, Fabrizio Giovanardi kept his car on the road.
In short, Giovanardi is the only BTCC driver that has talent. _________________ Online Wins: 6
